Star of the Month
Every month a pupil from each class (from Year 3 to Year 6) is chosen for the ‘star of the month’ award. Pupils are selected by their class teacher for a number of reasons such as:
– producing excellent school work
– working independently
– challenging themselves to do better
– having high expectations
– for trying hard and concentrating
– excellent attitude towards learning
– managing distractions
– raising personal standards
– improving class work and behaviour
– helping others
(and many others…)
Pupils are invited out in the ‘Achievement Assembly’ and are awarded a prize and certificate. They will have their photo exhibited in the ‘Star of the Month’ display board.
3 Star & AAA
During our end of year celebration assembly the fantastic achievements and hard work of all our pupils in year 2 and year 6 is celebrated. Special t-shirts are given to individual pupils to recognise their achievements. Children who have achieved greater depth across three areas receive a 3 star award and the AAA award is given to pupils who have demonstrated excellent attendance, attitude and personal achievement throughout the year.
Raving Readers
Raving Readers
At Copthorne we recognise and promote the importance of developing a love of reading and the platform it gives for every child’s future, using a reward scheme called ‘Raving Readers’.
We encourage children to read as much as possible, preferably every day, to improve their reading fluency and their comprehension skills. Every time a pupil reads and their reading record is signed by a responsible adult they receive a tick on the Raving Reader chart in their classroom.
In addition to reading, children have a number of reading journal tasks that they must complete to support their learning.
When the children reach a certain number of ticks and have completed their reading journal tasks, they receive a prize in the weekly Key Stage reward assembly.

Lunchtime Awards
Lunchtime Top Table Award
Once a week, a pupil from each year group is selected by the lunchtime supervisors to have lunch on a special table with the Head of School. A personalised invite is sent home to invite the child and a friend to come and dine in style. Every Thursday a special table is set up and lunch is served to the children at the table, who have the chance to have a good chat with Miss Ngenda. Children are chosen for demonstrating excellent behaviour during lunchtime and for following the school rules.
Lunchtime Raffle Award
All of our lunchtime supervisors have raffle tickets, which are given out to pupils to recognise and reward positive behaviour. While lunchtime supervisors are on duty they keep an eye out for pupils that might be helping others, listening to adults first time, lining up well or generally being nice and well mannered. The raffle tickets are stored in special boxes in each class, which are drawn at the end of each half term. The winner from each class receives a prize and recognition for their behaviour in the whole school assembly.
Mathlete Of The Month
Mathletics Awards
Children at Copthorne love completing activities and competing with others across the world in mental maths challenges on the Mathletics website. Weekly awards are given for classes which achieve the most points and children who answer questions with the greatest accuracy.
